Last year was the first time I ever decorated for fall. It was fun buying pumpkins and fall floral and I learned a few things that definitely influenced how I am planning to decorate this year. I am really excited for fall weather, pumpkin spice everything, and candy corn.

Truth be told, I’ve already decorated. I haven’t put out my front porch decorations yet because I don’t want my neighbors to think I’m incapable of reading a calendar. I know the first day of fall isn’t until September 22nd but I was just so excited to decorate.

For the patio last year I bought pillow covers, decorative signs, a garden flag, a pumpkin doormat, some ceramic pumpkins, and a floral arrangement. I eventually went shopping for real pumpkins and was very disappointed. Pumpkins (especially those pretty heirloom ones) are really expensive and might I remind you, real pumpkins rot. I bought two small ones and one medium size one last year, but not this year.

Along with the cute pumpkin door mat, I found this Chinese lantern door swag from Kirklands that I hung on the door to the garage.

Amazon has numerous fall pillow covers. Last year I purchased a four pack of 18″x 18″ covers and I found a two pack of orange and white buffalo check lumbar pillow covers (12″x 20″). I like my everyday black and cream theme so this year I decided to replace the “Just Chillin” dog pillow with one of the fall pillow covers from the set of four. I am disappointed that this pillow’s market name is Lorem Ipsum (dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry). I can’t figure out if it is on purpose or if someone forgot to replace the placeholder with an actual name.

I actually purchased terracotta pumpkins from Target but the pumpkins were not properly wrapped for shipment so when I opened the box, both pumpkins inside were crushed into hundreds of pieces so I had to find some replacements. Along with the galvanized sign, I found some pumpkins at Joann Fabrics. Neither are currently available but similar options are easy to find. I am sure JoAnn Fabrics will have some cute stuff again this year. Last year I purchased everything during one of their 70% off flash sales.

All the white pumpkins I bought last year are being used outside. Most will be on the front porch but I sat a few of the smaller ones around the patio.

I hung the garden flag from last year.

I finally broke down and purchased cushions for the lounge chairs.

I am almost done decorating the dining room and will actually have new things to share. I am also pretty excited to see how the front porch looks.
