Half Bathroom Remodel Complete

It’s done! I just need a soap dispenser and a fancy towel. You may look at this and think, “that looks nice.” So let me remind you what this room looked like before. BEFORE Matt replaced the toilet last year but that was the only update we had done. The room was so dark and dingy. No matter how it was decorated, it was ugly. The cabinets, trim, and countertop had yellowed. It needed a makeover. I quickly recognized that a coat of paint would not be enough. The cabinet had to go too. Each stage of the demo brought a new issue to light. Removing the mirror-wall damage, remove the old sheetrock and replace. Removing the cabinet-more wall damage and bare concrete, repair sheetrock and add six more pieces of tile.  Move the toilet-water damage from old toilet leaks, repair sheetrock. While my Dad was in town he replaced the plumbing in the wall and installed an utility sink in the laundry room (on the other side of the wall). Matt is happy it …

Half Bathroom Makeover Update

It looks like the half bath will be finished soon. It had been painted a couple of times since someone removed the original wallpaper. But the trim, cabinet, and door had yellowed. Matt had already replaced the toilet and purchased a new fan and air vent so I originally thought a new coat of paint would be enough to freshen it up a bit. But then I looked at the countertop. Fresh white paint on the trim would just highlight the yellowed marble countertop. So initially we thought we could just replace the countertop and paint the cabinet but considering the cost, it would be about the same price to just buy a new vanity. BEFORE DEMO So after removing the cabinet and countertop, we realized we would need to lay tile. The mirror was glued to the wall and left a lot of residue. Light Fixtures

Imagine you have purchased a home and you are walking room to room making a list of the things you would like to change or update. In my case, and I am assuming in the case of most people, it is not feasible to spend $10,000 at one time changing every little thing. When we were waiting to move in, I would stare at the pictures of our house online everyday, making lists of all the projects I was planning. I wanted to paint all the walls and trim, switch out all the light fixtures, remodel the master bathroom (eventually), and landscape the front yard. I had numerous smaller projects as well like replacing all the plugs, switches, and plates, having the tile and grout professionally cleaned and sealed, installing new toilets, and installing a new backdoor. The weekend we moved in, I felt very overwhelmed. I did not know how I would get through all the boxes. I set a goal: I would have all the boxes unpacked, broken down, and removed from the …
