My mom found this Hearth & Hand eucalyptus garland at Dirt Cheap. I wanted something to put around the window behind the sink and this light weight garland worked well. I found this cute Christmas towel at a local hardware store. They had a lot of chinoiserie Christmas decor. I need to go back and see if they have gotten in anything new.
My grandmother gave me these glittery red balls in different sizes. I decided to add a little color and texture to the stairwell garland which leads you upstairs to the red and silver themed den.
I am liking this eclectic den. It has turned into a mix of Asian, traditional, rustic, and bohemian decor, mixing old and a few new items. My brother pointed out that the art on the left side of the window look like two women (left and center) in traditional Japanese kimono, which I thought was neat because that wasn’t my plan when painting but makes me like the paintings more.
We finally got the sofa! It is deeper than I had originally thought but it is very comfortable and seems to be well made. It is the product of compromise. Matt wanted leather in some shade of brown and I wanted something with good structure (no squishy, over sized cushions or armrests).
As you can see, I have failed to paint the den. I just really do not feel like painting.
Here is the big red and silver tree. Added this year are the red and silver ornaments that my mom and I bought last year, tons of green stems and picks, red berries, red ribbon, and a silver star on top.
A few years ago we were making big bows to top off the tree. Then we started sticking glitter picks on top, then we shoved the picks up toward the top from the bottom, and this year I noticed tree toppers were more readily available. I found a silver beaded star at TJMaxx for $9.99.
I think next year I will have more fun decorating for Christmas because this year was the experiment year in our new house. Last year I just threw garland and trees around without much effort. This year I did a lot of shopping, trying to figure out what looked good where. But I didn’t want to spends tons of money on decor when after Christmas I will be able to find a lot of things on sale.
I really want some Christmas plates for the dining room place settings. I need more gold ornaments, gold picks, and definitely need timers. I am tired of having to physically plug and unplug lights. Since we have a sofa now, I may also try to find some Christmas pillows.
